Informazioni sull'artista

David (Dudu) Gerstein è nato nel 1944 a Gerusalemme da genitori immigrati dalla Polonia. La famiglia si trasferì a Ramat Gan quando lui aveva quattro anni. Sia lui che suo fratello gemello, Jonathan (Yoni) Gerstein, hanno mostrato talento artistico fin dalla tenera età. L'insegnante di David, Batya Uziel, lo ha incoraggiato a studiare pittura.

All'età di tredici anni fu mandato in un campo artistico a Gerusalemme, dove frequentò per diverse estati consecutive. Al liceo, ha preso lezioni al Beit Zvi Art Center di Ramat Gan con Rina Balktovsky Arnon.

Durante il servizio militare nei paracadutisti fu di stanza a Ein Gev per un anno, dove dipinse una serie di oli di moli da pesca, barche e paesaggi di kibbutz. Mentre era lì, ha incontrato l'artista Aharon Giladi, che lo ha incoraggiato a dedicarsi all'arte.
